About this deal

Each viewing presents a new idea, some darker, some lighter, but always driving home the precariousness of relationships, betrayal, desire, unfulfillment and failure. Even if one does not understand the significance of everything that takes place on the screen, one feels an inexorable need to keep watching, and feeling, and speculating.

Angelo Badalamenti - in this new video interview, Angelo Badalamenti discusses his long and illustrious career, his professional relationship with David Lynch (with excellent comments about the scoring of Blue Velvet), and the iconic soundtrack for Mulholland Drive.

Justin Theroux and Naomi Watts also explain how they were cast for their respective roles and discuss David Lynch's directing methods. Laura Harring explains how various sequences from Mulholland Drive were shot (including the notorious lovemaking sequence), the film's screening at the Cannes Film Festival, etc. And if that is not already exceptional, Dolby Vision adds a depth and vibrancy to the image that simply has to be seen.

However, this isn't the type of smoothness that you would encounter on older, digitally manipulated masters.

This 20 th anniversary is a stunning set; the newly minted native 4K image is beautiful, a detailed well coloured picture with stunning colour and glorious blacks, that, in Dolby Vision, is reference all the way. StudioCanal is preparing a 4K Blu-ray of David Lynch's film Mulholland Drive (2001), starring Justin Theroux, Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Ann Miller, and Dan Hedaya. There are dreamlike qualities, nightmare aspects and a deep-seated menace that underpins the whole Hollywood angle – shining a light on all the seediness years before it came out. A bright-eyed young actress travels to Hollywood, only to be ensnared in a dark conspiracy involving a woman who was nearly murdered, and now has amnesia because of a car crash. Everything within the film has a meaning, from the opening scenes (even before the credits) to the lighting, to the actions of the players as the plot thickens, cracks show before entering the ‘blue box’ and the further in you go the darker it becomes – figuratively and literally.

Review System: Denon AVR-X4300H, MK Sound LCR750 and SUR55T, XTZ S2 Atmosphere ceiling mounted, SVS PB-12 Ultra. I don’t want to go into the many interpretations of the film; whether you want to believe it is all a nightmare, or a subconscious mind breaking down, or a Mobius loop of surrealism, or a Jacob's Ladder angels/demons release; what really keeps you hooked and coming back for more is the uncertainty of certainty. This 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition includes 4K restoration (approved by David Lynch) on UHD and Blu-ray in inner digipack, 2 posters and set of 5 artcards, booklet including essays from Anna Smith and David Jenkins packaged in an outer clamshell box featuring all new artwork. Betty (Naomi Watts, 21 Grams, King Kong), a beautiful blonde from Ontario, arrives in Hollywood to try her luck in the movies.Clarity, sharpness, depth, dynamic intensity and balance, as well as overall balance are outstanding.
