About this deal

transfer with Dolby Vision and HDR10, as the results are a spectacular improvement over the previous Blu-ray. The colour scheme brings the richly cream-and-wood-dominated palette to life with panache, soaking up deep hues, and rendering solid, impenetrable black levels undoubtedly courtesy of that extra Dolby Vision enhancement. But I do love supplementary material that delves beyond just the production to give us background, so for that reason alone, "The '80s Downtown" is most welcome.

For those needing a plot summary, I refer you to my colleague Martin Liebman's American Psycho Blu-ray review of the original Blu-ray release. It’s the first person point of view journey that we take with this character that makes the violent ride so satisfying.

Black levels are nice and inky and give the image a new sense of three-dimensional depth that was absent in the previous SDR Blu-ray release. We will introduce you exclusively to Newpay finance products provided by NewDay Limited under this Introducer Appointed Representative arrangement. Based on the controversial novel, the film offers a sharp satire to the dark side of yuppie culture in the '80s, while setting forth a vision that is both terrifying and chilling. If that wasn't enough, they brought in some brand new bonus features to make the package all the more attractive. Blu-ray A Uncut Version America- Lions Gate Home Entertainment - No cuts – Unrated version (102:02).

American Psycho makes a glorious Ultra HD Blu-ray debut courtesy of Lionsgate, who afford it a native 4K presentation complete with all the glorious added benefit of Dolby Vision. There’s also a war inside and that’s usually suppressed here by a bright, poppy and fulfilling soundtrack in Bateman’s ears. Inside the packaging follows a fairly standard format, with both discs stacked on the right, and the digital code tucked into the left side. I'm including the screenshots from both discs just fro the sake of being absolutely thorough, but don't get it twisted. Harron's slightly more playful treatment of the darker source material makes it infinitely more accessible, still committing to the bloody depravities of its protagonist, but fashioning a strangely intriguing tale about a guy who is curiously - at least vaguely - aware of his behaviour and maybe even occasionally wants to stop it (his relationship with his secretary being a prime example). Not only do they - as is unfortunately not the norm for any other studio - port all of the Blu-ray extras over to the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc itself, but they sometimes even afford it new ones too. The first sign of trouble appears right during the opening credits over a set of impeccable white silk cloth, where a bit of speckling and pronounced grain are immediately evident. The 80s downtown' is only looseley related to the film, pretentious New York hipsters reminisce about the debauchery of new york in the period of the film.

Well things do go bump in the night here in both the score and the “Hip To Be Square” soundtrack, but also the chainsaw, gunshots and even explosions near the film’s end when Bateman’s brain is seemingly melting. The Uni extras only included a short and dull EPK thing plus some production notes, so they are not terribly missed). Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. I mean, fans were all a little disappointed some of the most extreme scenes were left out, and I was too, but I also understood the filmmakers were trying to deliver something that could play in theaters. We don't even get the illicit thrills of a carnival freak show, just the tedium of ugliness masquerading as art. True, he didn't don the cape and cowl for a few years after this film's premiere, but one can't help look at his Patrick Bateman and see a little bit of his future Bruce Wayne sitting there.

I mean where else are you going to be able to judge a man by the measuring of each other’s business cards? The violence is way toned down in terms of visceral gruel, but pumped up in visual excess, so it becomes surreal (even comic book-like), making it not only palatable, but justifiable as an artistic device through which to explore the book's themes of misogyny, wanton violence and amorality. At night however, he quickly descends into madness as he is filled with a compulsive need to kill and maim. There’s also some deleted scenes, a couple special features, the previously released 1080p Blu-ray version of the film and a Digital Copy of it too. The pretty boys and girls around him are all vacant, like Walt Stillman's 'Metropolitan' populated with zombies.

Even if you hate the movie and the novel, you have to admit, Patrick Bateman has become part of our cultural language. But much more excitingly, they found some deleted scenes, including a noteworthy scene from the book I'm surprised they cut out.
