About this deal

For Hallie, drunkenly hooking up with a stranger in the middle of her shift is rock bottom, but Jack turns out to be a kind and supportive confidant. That delightful one revolved around Olivia Marshall finding love after she texted a wrong number and fate intervened. yes’ he swallowed and said, ‘i can't drive by a burger king without thinking of french fries in bed; i can't hear a british person speak without remembering your fucking awful accent; i can't see a diamond ad without picturing your stupid grinning face at the borsheim's counter; and i can't hear my phone buzz without wishing it would be some asinine text from you. the only other two women, in fact, who exist in the first chapter at all and aren't our protagonist. When the time comes for Hallie to fly to Vail for her sisters wedding she knows she needs to find a plus one since her ex-boyfriend is in the wedding party too.

The character’s personalities shined in their messages, and it was great to see Hallie and Jack’s relationship deepen during these exchanges. I don’t always enjoy a rom-com where the two main characters converse a lot of text messages, but in this case, I didn’t mind. Whenever I read books where the characters are dating via apps, I am always like ‘well if anything happens and I end up no longer married, I will just die alone’.

Though Jack doesn’t feel quite as fleshed out as potty-mouthed spark plug Hallie, their equally filthy sense of humor makes their connection feel real and their game of constant one-upmanship is a lot of fun. jack and hallie kept using the excuse ‘oh we slept together so that’s probably why we’re attracted to each other, it’s in our biology’ to excuse their obsessive and unnecessary behaviour towards each other. They decide to be each other’s wing person, despite the fact that there is obvious chemistry between them. The book is dual POV, which usually I like, but in this case, we are flipping back and forth multiple times in the same chapter, sometimes after only a couple paragraphs, which is extremely disorienting and lazy. The witty banter was hilarious and it also featured some of my favourite tropes - one bed trope, fake dating, and forced proximity!

What follows is a one-night stand that morphs into friendship, a dating app, lots of witty banter, attraction, chemistry, tacos, and one heck of a journey!her entire goal in this book was to change the person she’d been becoming and grow, BUT SHE NEVER GREW. She gets a new apartment, a new haircut, and a new wardrobe, but when she logs into the dating app that she has determined will find her new love, she sees none other than Jack, the guy whose room she’d snuck out of. The spot-on writing style and the main characters’ effortless banter made it easy to get swept up in this upbeat rom-com, but I did find issue with some of the plot points. My minor criticisms: I completely saw that third act drama coming (same thing with Mr Wrong Number) and IMO it was kinda not enough.

Lynn Painter lives with her husband and pack of wild children in Nebraska, where she is a weekly contributor to the Omaha World-Herald and an avid fan of napping. Even though these two are fun, their characters still have a lot of depth, and they both have some issues to work through before they can become a couple.quick content warning: i curse a lot in this review and when i say A LOT i mean A LOT (and if you get that reference you’re cool) anyways, if cursing is not your thing or you are not comfortable with that, go right ahead and skip this review !
