About this deal

This may seem odd, but technically this is legally considered barrel proof in the eyes of the TTB. You’re not allowed to dump the barrels into a vat and proof it down and call it that. The final way they could be getting a consistent proof is just lying about it and refusing to change the label. There aren’t many ways to enforce these mislabeling practices, so maybe they just don’t care. I’m not saying that’s the case though. I then wondered how many others have forgotten drams, bottles that were opened once and then discarded? I was sure my Wild Turkey Rare Breed was not a unique case. While I may not have a lot of open bottles compared to some of you lovely people reading this, we all must have bottles that aren’t getting the attention they deserve. I’m not a great bourbon appreciator given that I am spoilt for choice by living in an area that has the largest concentration of Scotch distilleries, but I feel this one by its very merit as a survivor needs to be seen through its intended journey to bottle kill rather than getting poured down the sink. Now that I know a lot more about whisky than I did when I bought the bottle, I’m hoping I can appreciate the spirit more than I would have done when I bought it all those years ago. Have you had the Wild Turkey Rare Breed? If so add your own thoughts in the comments below. Wild Turkey Rare Breed Review

Excerpt: Due to the strong flavor profile, mixers in a Manhattan or Old Fashioned will not drown out Rare Breed. Excerpt: Dry oak and spice come out on the finish with pine, mint, and the lingering rich sweetness of vanilla in myriad forms, think: vanilla frosting, pudding, and pound cake.

Domestication

That way, distilleries don’t have to employ former NASA engineers and could cut costs by hiring the same engineers that designed the Ford 6.0L diesel. The third method may be that Wild Turkey combines multiple barrels together into one barrel after maturation is complete. Then they test the total proof and add water into the barrel as needed to lower it down to 112.2. Bourbon Mash: though it's never been confirmed by the brand, it's widely understood all its bourbon whiskey products start with a mash of 75% corn, 13% rye, 12% malted barley (Wild Turkey 101, Russell's Reserve, Longbranch, Wild Turkey Master's Keep, etc.). People gradually get used to them and the hype dies down. I bet sales numbers are good for the first year or so because everyone wants to try them.

Lou swears like a sailor, uses the most immature-but-hilarious references, has a liver the size of Texas and he enjoys drinking. I love him to pieces, but when it comes to alcohol, I’m at a stage that would seem aligned with my age. I don’t drink for inebriation or to party hardy. Those days are long gone. I drink for taste. I sip and explore flavours. I try to discern layers. Meanwhile, Lou would just as soon do shots of any liquor followed up with a rebel yell. Wild Turkey Rare Breed (2018) – 116.8-proof KSBW – reportedly a blend of 6, 8, and 12-year, barrel-proof bourbon – distilled and bottled by the Wild Turkey Distilling Co., Lawrenceburg, KYWild turkeys typically forage on forest floors, but can also be found in grasslands and swamps. They feed on nuts, seeds, fruits, insects, and salamanders. Population Rebound However, give him a bourbon and he can peel the layers down like a pro. He’s much more discerning, critical, and accurate in his assessments of the bourbons he drinks. Really quite fascinating. What’s cool about this is that the higher proof makes all its flavors pop even more, giving you a richer taste of the rye grain and all the other yummy notes in the whiskey. If you’re in search of a fresh rye whiskey experience, Rare Breed Rye should be on your list. Its distinct blend and non-chilled filtration make it a notable choice among many rye whiskeys. Whether you’re a longtime whiskey aficionado or just venturing into the realm of rye, this rich and intricate whiskey is sure to impress. Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye: An Overview

Just like their original Rare Breed, which is a barrel-proof bourbon. So is rare breed rye. It is a barrel-proof rye whiskey. What does this mean? It means that it’s bottled directly from the barrel, no added water to lower the proof. It is preserved to express its full flavor and strength.Excerpt: All told I like it considerably less, though, again, water helps temper the beast a bit, helping the minty notes come forward more clearly. Distillation: After fermentation, the mash is distilled in traditional copper stills. Concentrating the alcohol and flavors of the whiskey, making it a more potent and flavorful spirit.

The turkey was Benjamin Franklin's choice for the United States's national bird. Significance in American History If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. After so long sitting in the cupboard, this bottle wasn’t ready for a review straight away – the bottle needed to sit for a couple of hours to let it breathe. It was a bit of a mixed bag. While I taste the familiar flavours so often experienced from a bourbon cask, there is also a hint of something else. I have to think about the dominant wood here, and to me it’s off balance. Whether or not this is as a result of leaving the bottle in the cupboard for so long and left traces of old bottle effect, I don’t know. I would conclude that perhaps I got away with not having to waste this whiskey, but crucially I have missed consuming this bourbon in its prime. Perhaps I’ll notice an improvement as the bottle goes down further. Let this be a cautionary tale for all of you who have forgotten whiskies on the shelf.Oh, so that’s where all of the engineers at NASA went. The second method could take advantage of a TTB rule that states that the proof on a label is allowed to be off from the actual proof of the liquid by like, +/- .5% ABV (so one proof point in either direction). This could give Rare Breed Rye the ability to possibly be as high as 113.2 and as low as 111.2. It would be inaccurate to say this bottle had been forgotten as I had always known it was there. This is a trap the unwary whisky geek can fall into when there are more exciting things crossing your path. I often get scoffed at by American work colleagues when asked about my taste in whiskey from their side of the Pond, as Wild Turkey is often seen as nothing more than bottom shelf supermarket whisky. While I appreciate there may be finer bourbons available, this brand was my first on the journey. So many things could have been wrong with this spirit after so long but also due to it being an almost full bottle, there were many things that could be good about it also. Either way, curiosity wasn’t going to let me sit about much longer wondering about it. Huge clove, spicey allspice and sweet musty caramel. Caramel and vanilla are present here also, although they are hidden away behind the big, powerful spices. Rich velvety caramel hefts itself from the glass and saunters down my sinuses with butterscotch, cinnamon, honey and oak in tow. Skulking about the glass behind these giants is some nutmeg, citrus, clove, vanilla, leather and a bit of mint. The NCF versus CF debate has raged for decades now. Unfortunately/fortunately I’m not a scientist. I can’t offer any hard facts or peer-reviewed studies. All I can give you is my opinion. The bottom line is this – any process that affects whiskey cosmetically is changing something. In other words, the whiskey dumped from the barrel has been altered, even if slightly. That’s a fact. Of course, this happens via dilution all the time. But we as consumers know by disclosure and accept that prior to purchasing an expression. We expect water to change the flavor and understand a flavor profile goes hand in hand.
