About this deal

Beyerdynamic has a specific vision in making their products: Their products should last long (very long) and should employ quality engineering for precise and accurate sound reproduction. Also the DT880 is not modular, it does not detacheable cables, and hence definitely not as durable as HD600. I would not use it for outside, or in an environment demanding quiet - but for normal use around the home so far it has been excellent. The grille and forks are very solid aluminium, with the latter having a subtle brush effect which adds a nice feeling of quality.

The manufacturing of the DT 880 is impeccable; I have them since the beginning of 2018 and although it has slid from my desk quite a few times, it looks and functions just like the first day. It looks identical but the 880's are more "plush" to the touch, even more so than the more expensive HD 600. Despite being the Premium Model, it’s almost as comfy at the Dt 990 Pro, yet the DT 990 Pro is still my most comfortable headphone! I managed to get decent volumes from the Google Nexus 7 and the iPhone 4, others didn't fair so well so this is far from ideal, just don't completely rule this out.HD600 indeed does comparatively lack soundstage width, but inturn has a very 3D and more circular and fuller soundstage.

Beware of the many expensive but wimpy headphone amplifiers with no more than 2 V RMS output, which isn't much more than the 1 V RMS output of an iPod. Low-treble is well-balanced, but treble is over-emphasized by an average of 5dB, peaking at 12dB around 9KHz. Highs- The violins are very playful, there is a lovely bright and airy nature to the Dt 880, detail retention is top notch. Eventually, I found the pleasure of listening to music mainly by the HD600 and recently, by the seductive LCD2 headphones, and realized the true components of recorded music. They also do not have as much Bass as the DT 990, but on the upside, they have a spacious Soundstage, low harmonic distortion and great stereo image, which makes them good headphones for neutral listening.

Bass- The bass on the dt880's is very tight its not boomy what so ever, but he bass is well defined and very pleasing. Anything touching my ears is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, as it makes my ears itchy and red from irritation.

Of course below 20 Hz "audible" is more the room noise modulating itself from intermodulation with the headphone's subsonic input, but that's the way it works in live sound, too.The DT 880 look similar to the DT 990 PRO but have enough unique touches to feel like a different design.

Thanks to its semi-open design, the DT 880 Black Special Edition allows some ambient noise to penetrate and escape, but attenuates it somewhat stronger than in the case of fully open headphones such as the DT 990 Edition. My difficulty in loving the DT 880 is the high-end, which tends to be unnaturally piercing and sharp. The headphones differ to a much greater degree in their design, materials, and craftsmanship than their audio fidelity.
